Cyprus tourism rebounds strongly in summer 2026, narrowing gap with last year’s record arrivals
Cyprus saw a strong recovery in tourism arrivals during the peak summer months of 2026, significantly closing the gap with the record-breaking numbers of 2025 despite earlier disruptions. July arrivals were only 1.1% below those in July 2025, improving from a 1.7% decline the previous month and a sharp drop in spring caused by instability in the Middle East and air transport issues. However, total arrivals from January to July remained 8.0% below 2025 levels, amounting to approximately 193,000 fewer visitors.
The main market supporting this recovery was Israel, with arrivals rising 8.6%, while the UK, Cyprus’ largest source of tourists, experienced an 11.1% decline. Other markets such as Poland remained stable, and Germany, Greece, and Scandinavian countries saw moderate decreases. Despite these fluctuations, analysis indicated the drop was due to a temporary demand shock rather than lasting structural changes, with airlines maintaining flight routes and frequencies.
Tourism recovery during the summer benefited not only hotels but also aviation, transport, retail, and food services sectors, helping to limit broader economic impacts.
