Averof Neofytou opens possibility of presidential run depending on Cyprus problem progress
Former DISY leader Averof Neofytou has not ruled out running for the presidency again, stating that his decision will hinge on developments in the Cyprus problem. Speaking on SIGMA TV, Neofytou said that if no strategic agreement is reached to resolve the Cyprus issue, he would seriously consider a new candidacy. He emphasized he has not yet made a final decision and that the public will ultimately judge his choice.
Neofytou also expressed willingness to support President Nikos Christodoulides if a solution is agreed upon, saying he would stand "next to the President." He responded to previous election defeat by comparing it to Donald Trump’s loss and return to politics. Additionally, Neofytou criticized rising public spending, including the purchase of a new presidential limousine, underscoring accountability in the use of taxpayer money.
On economic issues, he highlighted growing income inequality in Cyprus despite positive indicators, pointing out that while the state and economy appear strong, many Cypriots are struggling financially. He also called for targeted support for vulnerable families rather than broad tax incentives that benefit foreign companies and workers.
