Nicosia International Festival opens with award-winning theatre and international performances

The 7th Nicosia International Festival launches on September 12, offering 50 days of theatre, dance, music, and performances from Cyprus and abroad. The festival will showcase 22 productions at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre and various city venues.

The opening act features Mario Banushi’s multi-award-winning play Goodbye Lindita, a poignant exploration of loss and memory, following his Silver Lion award at the Venice Theatre Biennale. On September 15, the Comédie-Française brings L’Évènement, a powerful autobiographical work by Nobel laureate Annie Ernaux, addressing freedom and women’s rights.

Later events include The Woman of Zakynthos on September 17-18, merging poetry with performance, and Ali Chahrour’s When I Saw the Sea on September 20, blending dance, music, and real testimonies from women. The festival runs through November 1 and includes productions from Greece, Lebanon, France, Ireland, and Spain.
