Cyprus President to receive new €595,000 armoured limousine via direct negotiation
President Nikos Christodoulides will soon be provided with a new armoured presidential limousine costing €595,000. The Finance Ministry has requested that Parliament’s Finance Committee approve the release of funds to cover the purchase, which was decided by the Cabinet on July 16. The procurement was made through direct negotiation with a local car dealership, bypassing a public tender process.
The technical details of the vehicle have not been disclosed due to security reasons, including confidential armour specifications. Christodoulides currently uses an armoured limousine acquired during the presidency of his predecessor, Nicos Anastasiades, who in turn had replaced an earlier vehicle purchased in 2010.
In addition to presidential vehicles, the government had previously rented 12 armoured limousines from Germany during Cyprus’s EU Council presidency for €140,000 over ten days. Meanwhile, about two years ago, the state invested €1.65 million in 35 electric and hybrid cars for official use by state employees.
