RS21 Cyprus launches new RS21 keelboat sailing initiative to boost competitive and training sailing in Limassol
The Nautical Club of Limassol has launched RS21 Cyprus, a new sailing initiative designed to develop a competitive racing fleet, regular regattas, and professional crew training on the island. The project focuses on the RS21 one-design keelboat, raced by crews of four using identical boats to emphasize skill and teamwork over equipment differences.
Developed in cooperation with Olympic champion Igor Matviienko and leveraging Cyprus’s Olympic sailing legacy, including Pavlos Kontides, the initiative aims to create ongoing opportunities for both local and international sailors. It offers beginner-friendly crew training, international competitions, corporate sailing events, and program expansions to encourage broader participation.
The first major competition, the Club Cup 2026, concluded in August with Mogyla L securing the overall victory. Organizers plan a six-event winter series starting in October to attract overseas teams, establishing Cyprus as a year-round sailing training and racing destination while fostering a sustainable competitive sailing community on the island.
