Cyprus expands child benefit to 17,000 more families with increased income limits
President Nikos Christodoulides announced significant reforms to the child benefit scheme, increasing both the amount and the income eligibility limits. The maximum income thresholds have been raised to €90,000 for families with three children and €100,000 for families with four children, enabling 17,000 additional families and over 23,000 children to receive support.
Christodoulides highlighted that families with five or more children will continue to receive benefits without income restrictions, effective from 2025. Moreover, the reform addresses long-standing issues such as the cessation of benefits following minor increases in income. The tuition subsidy for children up to 4 years and 4 months has also been extended, assisting approximately 2,000 families and 2,800 children.
Announcing these changes ahead of the new school year, the president emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting families, boosting disposable income, and enhancing the overall welfare state through targeted policies in education and health, contributing to the country’s economic development and social progress.
