Two suspects remanded after dangerous Limassol police chase involving drug driving and attacks on officers
Two suspects involved in a dramatic police chase in Limassol have been remanded in custody for seven days. The 19-year-old driver and his 20-year-old passenger face 12 charges, including conspiracy, grievous bodily harm, malicious damage, and multiple traffic offences. The driver was found to be under the influence of drugs during the incident.
The chase involved dangerous driving across the city, with the driver causing four accidents by hitting parked and stationary vehicles. Police fired warning shots as the suspects tried to evade arrest, even throwing objects such as tools, a car speaker, a battery, and a crab at pursuing officers. The driver attempted to ram police vehicles, and injured a tactical unit officer by dragging him several meters after striking him through the van's window.
The van was finally stopped at traffic lights in the Monagroulli Industrial Area, where a knife was found on the driver. Both suspects were arrested and tested positive for drugs, with the driver admitting to taking crystal meth. The driver had also been previously arrested for a similar incident involving assault on a police officer while evading arrest.
