Cyprus and Greece Conduct Joint Search and Rescue Exercise in Eastern Mediterranean
Cyprus and Greece carried out a joint search and rescue exercise, codenamed “Salamis-03/26,” in the eastern Mediterranean within Cyprus' search and rescue area of responsibility. The exercise involved multiple naval vessels and helicopters from both nations, including Greek navy frigates Nikiforos Fokas and Hydra, the National Guard's patrol vessel Ioannidis, and aviation units from the police and National Guard.
Coordinated by the Larnaca Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in cooperation with the Hellenic Navy General Staff, the exercise aimed to enhance bilateral search and rescue capabilities under the Cyprus-Greece agreement. The event also featured medical personnel from the ambulance service's specialist MEDEVAC team.
Notably, the Hellenic Navy frigate Nikiforos Fokas replaced the Elli, which had been deployed for nearly 100 days as part of Greece’s contribution to Cyprus' defense following a drone strike on the British Base of Akrotiri.
