Cypriot film 'Hold Onto Me' premieres nationally after Sundance success
The feature film "Hold Onto Me," directed by Cypriot filmmaker Myrsini Aristidou, will premiere in Cyprus cinemas on September 17 at K-Cineplex venues nationwide. The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, where it was selected for the official international competition category—the first time a Cypriot feature has achieved this distinction. It garnered sold-out audiences, a standing ovation, and won the Audience Award in the World Cinema Dramatic category.
"Hold Onto Me" tells the story of 11-year-old Iris, who reconnects with her estranged father Aris following his return to Cyprus for his father's funeral. The film, shot entirely in Cyprus, explores themes of family, absence, and the relationships that shape people. The cast includes Christos Passalis and Maria Petrova.
Produced by Filmblades and One Six One Films in cooperation with several European partners and the Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Culture, the film has also been praised by critics, with Sundance calling it "an exceptional directorial debut" and other outlets highlighting the authentic performances and its fresh take on indie storytelling.
