Justice Minister pledges increased police presence and new recruits in Limassol to address safety concerns
Justice Minister Costas Fitiris has committed to bolstering police presence in Limassol by deploying new recruits to reinforce bicycle patrols and the rapid response ‘Z’ unit amid rising public safety concerns. The announcement came during a meeting with Limassol Mayor Yiannis Armeftis and municipal officials focused on crime prevention, road safety, and noise pollution.
The initiative follows calls from Disy MP Fotini Tsiridou for enhanced policing after a recent indecent assault complaint in Dasoudi. Tsiridou urged the authorities to increase patrols, improve community policing, and enhance lighting and visibility along coastal pedestrian routes to ensure safer public spaces.
Fitiris and Armeftis also discussed relocating the Limassol district police directorate to a new site, with plans to hand the current premises to the municipality. Additionally, steps to curb illegal street racing were addressed, with coordinated meetings set to begin in January to develop preventative measures.
