Cyprus leaders' meeting set for September 9 as negotiation process continues
The scheduled meeting between the leaders of Cyprus will proceed on Wednesday, September 9, according to government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis, signaling that negotiations on the Cyprus problem remain on track. Prior to this, the two chief negotiators are set to meet on Monday, September 7, while UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy Maria Angela Holguin is expected to visit Cyprus shortly after the first ten days of September to help prepare for upcoming discussions.
Letymbiotis emphasized that developments in the occupied north will not disrupt the timeline aimed at the expiration of the UN Secretary-General’s mandate terms in December. He underscored the importance of regular meetings between the leaders and noted the Cypriot government's continued resolve. The envoy’s visit follows consultations with the Secretary-General to coordinate efforts ahead of the next expanded conference.
In response to questions about the international arrest warrants related to the killings of Isaak and Solomou, Letymbiotis clarified that these legal matters are handled through appropriate institutional channels by the Republic of Cyprus and are not subjects for direct dialogue between the two leaders.
