Cyprus government confirms pension reform talks proceeding with 2027 implementation target
Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis announced that talks on pension reform in Cyprus are progressing as planned, with implementation targeted for 2027. Recent discussions at the Labour Advisory Board have focused on key proposal elements, including support for low-income pensioners and actuarial adjustments.
Letymbiotis highlighted that over 40% of pensioners, approximately 51,664 individuals, are expected to receive monthly pension increases exceeding €100. The reform aims to provide substantial support to pensioners currently receiving up to €600, ensuring benefits reach those most in need.
The pension reform is part of a broader strategy to enhance disposable income and promote fairer distribution of economic gains in Cyprus. It also seeks to address longstanding inequalities by acknowledging periods outside the workforce due to caregiving, maternity, and disability, aiming for a system that better reflects citizens' life and work realities.
