House health committee urges faster action on Limassol General Hospital staffing and oncology services

The House health committee has called for urgent improvements in staffing and cancer treatment services at Limassol General Hospital. During a recent visit, committee chair Savia Orphanidou highlighted the need to address four key specialties and upgrade the haematology clinic with additional doctors and nursing staff. The committee also stressed the importance of developing oncology services, including plans for the hospital to perform bone marrow transplants.

Okypy board chairman Marinos Kallis acknowledged the issues and confirmed that solutions and timelines are in place. He noted that over €250 million had been invested in infrastructure and equipment in the past three years, with development projects at Limassol General expected to finish by the end of 2024.

Professor Nikolaos Zampoglou, chief executive of the German oncology centre, welcomed the committee’s focus but warned that financial pressures and service challenges required immediate attention. He emphasized the need for cooperation to improve patient-centered care and praised the creation of a patients’ ombudsman to support both patients and health providers.
