University of Cyprus Cultural Festival resumes with multilingual production of Seven Against Thebes
The 29th Cultural Festival of the University of Cyprus has entered its second half, presenting 19 events from September to October at the Michalis Pieris Cultural Centre in Nicosia. The festival showcases a diverse range of cultural productions from numerous countries, including Cyprus, Greece, Spain, Italy, and more.
Kicking off the autumn program is the Persona Theatre Company's multilingual performance of Seven Against Thebes by Aeschylus on September 5. Directed by Lea Maleni, the production offers a contemporary reflection on war, exploring themes of violence, revenge, and survival. Seven different languages, such as Arabic, Farsi, Somali, Hindi, and Serbian, are spoken live, emphasizing the shared experiences of conflict and displacement.
Originally created for the 29th International Ancient Greek Drama Festival, the play now opens the University's cultural agenda, continuing a rich array of local and international artistic performances through October. Tickets are priced at €10 and the event starts at 8:30 pm at Axiothea Mansion.
