Larnaca leads Cyprus in clearing more planning and building permits than received in July 2026
In July 2026, the Larnaca district local government organisation (EOA) achieved impressive processing rates, exceeding the number of planning and building permit applications received. The district completed 267 Category I planning permits against 256 new applications, a 104% processing rate, and 420 Category I building permits compared to 339 received, marking a 124% completion rate. This indicates not only handling new applications but also reducing the backlog.
Larnaca also processed more Category II planning permits than submitted, with 142 completions versus 133 applications, a 107% rate. However, Category II building permits lagged slightly, with an 83% processing rate due to 114 completions against 138 applications. The district inherited over 4,200 pending cases from the 2024 local government reform and has since cleared about 86.6% of them.
These results surpass many other districts, showing Larnaca’s commitment to faster permit processing and better service. The local authority emphasized its ongoing efforts to reduce waiting times and handle both pending and new applications more efficiently.
