Cyprus’s gymnast Marios Georgiou secured gold in the men’s individual all-around at the 20th Mediterranean Games in Taranto, scoring 80.450 points and becoming the only finalist to exceed the 80-point mark. This victory marks his fourth gold medal of the Games and his second in the individual all-around event, solidifying his status as Cyprus’s most decorated Mediterranean Games athlete with a total of seven medals.
Georgiou’s impressive performance included scores across six apparatus: Floor (12.450), Pommel Horse (13.600), Rings (13.350), Vault (13.350), Parallel Bars (13.900), and Horizontal Bar (13.800). He is the first Cypriot to win four golds in a single Mediterranean Games and has won gold in three consecutive editions, following his successes in 2018 and 2022.
Cyprus matched its best-ever Mediterranean Games medal haul with six gold, five silver, and three bronze medals, equaling the record set in 2022. Other notable achievements include long jump gold for Filippa Fotopoulou and silver medals in athletics for Milan Trajkovic and Elena Kulichenko. Competitions are still ongoing, with Georgiou set to compete in further finals.
