Cyprus and Greece establish first quantum-secure satellite data connection
Cyprus and Greece have successfully launched their first quantum-secure satellite data connection, enhancing protection against future cyber threats. The connection links Sparkle’s data centre in Athens with Hellas Sat’s infrastructure in Cyprus, extending quantum protection to a live satellite link covering approximately 72,000 kilometres.
This technology uses Sparkle’s Quantum Safe Interconnect (QSI), which secures data transmissions by automatically switching encryption keys and safeguarding against “store now, decrypt later” cyber attacks. Its software-based design allows integration with existing networks, enabling businesses to strengthen security without replacing infrastructure.
Hellas Sat’s satellite system provides communications services from Cyprus, and this milestone enhances secure connectivity especially for organisations operating in remote or critical locations. The cooperation marks a significant step in commercialising quantum-secure satellite services for Greece and Cyprus, reflecting advancements in next-generation telecommunications security.
