Classmates show support for 16-year-old Aris injured in Aglantzia traffic accident
Classmates of 16-year-old Aris unveiled a banner in support of him on the first day of the new school year, expressing solidarity as he fights for his life. The banner, featuring his photograph and the message "Aris, we believe in you, we’re with you," highlights the community's concern during this difficult time.
Aris was seriously injured in a traffic collision early Friday, August 7, 2026, around 2 a.m. While riding an electric scooter on Georgiou Griva Digeni Avenue towards Larnakos Avenue in Aglantzia, he was struck and dragged by a vehicle. He was rushed to Nicosia General Hospital where he underwent surgery and remains in critical condition.
The vehicle was located shortly after the accident, and the 27-year-old driver tested positive for alcohol with a breath test result of 73 microgrammes per cent, well above the legal limit of 22. The driver was arrested on the scene for an offence committed in the act. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision.
