76-year-old man fatally struck on Limassol-Paphos motorway while removing fallen fridge
A 76-year-old man died on the Limassol-Paphos motorway after he was struck by a passing minibus while trying to move a fridge that had fallen onto the road. The fridge reportedly fell from his double-cab pickup, which had stopped on the road in an improvised manner. The man had reversed to retrieve the fridge and exited the vehicle when the minibus hit him.
The minibus driver was arrested and tested for alcohol and drugs as authorities investigate the exact circumstances of the accident. The minibus was carrying passengers to Paphos airport at the time of the incident. Limassol traffic police and British Bases Police are handling the investigation, with statements being collected from the driver and passengers.
The collision caused the closure of the Paphos-bound motorway section from Kantou exit after the tunnel until midday. Traffic was redirected via the old Limassol-Paphos road, with drivers advised to use alternative exits to avoid the collision area. The victim's relatives have been informed of the tragedy.
