Justice Minister meets delivery companies to enhance driver safety after recent attacks
Justice Minister Costas Fitiris held a meeting with delivery companies and Deputy Police Chief Michalis Katsounotos to address safety concerns following a series of violent attacks on delivery drivers across Cyprus. The discussion focused on improving driver protection and enhancing cooperation between police and delivery firms for better information sharing and coordinated preventive measures.
The meeting came in response to multiple recent attacks, including a violent assault on a 34-year-old delivery driver in Larnaca and a series of attacks in Paphos where five drivers were targeted after a payment dispute, resulting in theft and injuries. Arrests have been made, and police continue to investigate related offenses such as robbery, assault, and illegal weapon possession.
Additional incidents in Limassol involving theft and physical assault on delivery drivers highlight ongoing risks faced by this group. The ministry emphasized the goal of strengthening delivery driver safety through substantial cooperation, timely information flow, and coordinated preventive actions to prevent further incidents.
