Cyprus increases funding for Scouts Association and scout camps supporting youth development
Cyprus will boost its funding for the Scouts Association from €50,000 to €75,000, with an additional €100,000 allocated specifically for scout camps, President Nikos Christodoulides announced on Wednesday. Speaking during a ceremony where 110 young people received the prestigious republican scout degree, the president emphasized that government support for scouting is an investment in the nation's future.
Christodoulides highlighted the role of scouting in promoting values like altruism, solidarity, discipline, and teamwork, particularly in a society grappling with alienation and individualism. He praised the scouts' continued contributions, referencing their historical involvement from the liberation struggle to aid following natural and man-made disasters.
The republican scout degree, awarded to these youths, signifies the completion of rigorous training and service, reinforcing the importance of non-formal education and volunteerism in fostering active and responsible citizenship across Cyprus.
