Consumers Association reports 10.6% price decreases and 10.4% increases in August

In August, the Consumers Association recorded a total of 1,511 price decreases in products listed on the e-kalathi application, reflecting an overall reduction of 10.6 percent. Conversely, 1,434 price increases were noted, with an average rise of 10.4 percent. The most significant price hikes occurred in frozen fish (14.8%), nuts (10.5%), pasta (8.8%), and cheese (7.4%).

As of August 31, a total of 177 common products displayed an average price difference of 13.6 percent across 12 supermarkets. These findings highlight ongoing volatility in consumer goods pricing amid changing market conditions.
