Cypriot Andri Nicolaou awarded British Empire Medal for child exploitation prevention work in UK
Cypriot Andri Nicolaou, who has worked for Avon and Somerset Police since 2004, is set to receive the British Empire Medal (BEM) from King Charles III in recognition of her outstanding efforts to prevent and tackle the exploitation of minors. As a civilian officer and coordinator for child exploitation prevention over the past eight years, Nicolaou has educated more than 21,000 children, parents, carers, and professionals on issues ranging from sexual and criminal exploitation to online safety.
Originally from Cyprus, Nicolaou has been instrumental in developing pioneering awareness initiatives and briefing newly recruited police officers on safeguarding children. Avon and Somerset Police Chief Constable Sarah Crew praised her dedication and effectiveness, noting that her work has empowered young people to make safer, more informed decisions and strengthened partnerships with child protection organizations.
Expressing surprise at the honour, Nicolaou emphasized her commitment to supporting young people and raising public awareness about the dangers of grooming and exploitation, both online and offline. The award aims to further highlight the importance of her lifelong dedication to child protection.
