Cyprus launches Cyprus Association of Social Anthropologists promoting anthropological research
Cyprus has established the Cyprus Association of Social Anthropologists (CASA), a professional non-profit body dedicated to social anthropology. CASA aims to unite scholars, practitioners, and students engaged with Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean to promote anthropological research, ethics, and public awareness.
CASA's inaugural event will be a two-day conference titled “Our Common Grounds: Pasts, Presents, Futures of Anthropology in Cyprus,” held at the Cyprus University of Technology in Limassol on September 4–5, 2026. The conference features ten parallel panels covering various disciplines including anthropology, history, archaeology, and visual anthropology. Keynote speaker Professor Rebecca Bryant will address geopolitical issues related to Cyprus.
Additionally, CASA will honor Professor Vassos Argyrou with its Lifetime Contribution Award for his impact on anthropology in Cyprus. The launch event aims to foster dialogue across generations about the discipline's development and future on the island. The conference is free and open to the public.
