Omonia footballer Tasos Hadjigiovanis donates €12,500 for child’s cancer treatment
Tasos Hadjigiovanis, an Omonia footballer, has donated €12,500 to fully cover the medical expenses for a child battling stage four neuroblastoma, a rare cancer affecting young children. The donation ended a fundraising campaign organised by the charity Children’s Joy, which called on the public to stop donations after the target was met.
Neuroblastoma develops from immature nerve cells and often starts around the adrenal glands or along the spine. Children’s Joy confirmed that this donation enabled them to meet the full amount needed for Demetris, the child receiving treatment. The charity also highlighted Hadjigiovanis’s ongoing support of their work over several years, including previous contributions to help children in need.
In addition to the financial aid, Hadjigiovanis has communicated directly with Demetris’ mother and plans to visit the family upon his return to Cyprus. The charity praised his involvement as extending beyond donations, emphasising his commitment to their mission and the families they assist.
