New police investigation opened against journalist Makarios Drousiotis over personal data breach claims in book 'State Mafia'
The Cyprus Police are investigating allegations of a possible personal data breach related to the content of the book "State Mafia" by journalist Makarios Drousiotis. The complaint, currently at an early stage, is being handled independently from the probe linked to the Independent Authority Against Corruption's report.
Police Communications Officer Michalis Michail confirmed that the investigation is being conducted by the Headquarters' Crime Investigation Unit and involves potential violations of personal data protection. Several individuals have already been called for questioning, though details remain confidential to safeguard the process.
Drousiotis previously stated on social media that this is the second criminal case opened against him regarding his book, following an earlier case involving false news allegations. He criticized the ongoing investigations as attempts to intimidate him and his collaborators and warned that these actions threaten press freedom, transparency, accountability, and the rule of law in Cyprus.
