10-year-old Cypriot pianist Leonidas Nikolaou wins Grand Prix at London international competition
Leonidas Nikolaou, a talented pianist from Cyprus, has won the Grand Prix at an international piano competition held at Duke’s Hall at the Royal Academy of Music in London. At just 10 years old, Leonidas performed Mozart’s "Alla Turca" in the 8–10 age category, competing against 35 young pianists from various countries and emerging as the sole representative of Cyprus.
Leonidas began piano lessons at age five, showing a deep passion for music from an early age. He currently practices daily and also studies double bass and electric guitar. Apart from piano competitions abroad, he participates in events organized by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and is part of the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra's academy.
His family has fully supported his musical journey, covering all related costs without state help. Following his recent success, international pianist Grigory Gruzman has invited Leonidas for masterclasses, and additional supporters have contributed to his education. Leonidas’s parents express pride in his achievements and emphasize that his win marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his musical career.
