Five British nationals arrested at Larnaca Airport with 74.75kg of undeclared rolling tobacco
Five British nationals were arrested at Larnaca Airport after Customs officers discovered a total of 74.75kg of rolling tobacco in their luggage on 8 August. The tobacco lacked the required Greek and Turkish health warnings, as well as the necessary security features and traceability codes, suggesting it was not duty-paid. The individuals were about to board a flight to Manchester when Customs intercepted them following an assessment of prior intelligence.
The seized tobacco was distributed among the five passengers, ranging from 11.75kg to 18kg each, packed in numerous 50-gram packages. All five were immediately arrested, and their luggage was confiscated. They appeared before the Larnaca District Court on Sunday, where they were remanded in custody for two days pending further investigation.
