Father charged in deaths of sons in Xylofagou denied bail to attend funerals
A Bulgarian father charged with causing the deaths of his two young sons in Xylofagou has been denied bail to travel to Bulgaria for their funerals and will remain in police custody. This decision was announced by the Senior Judge, with no further details provided. The father faces two counts of causing death by a rash, reckless, or negligent act after his sons, aged eight and ten, were found dead inside a parked vehicle in the Sovereign Base Areas in June.
During the July 30 hearing, the defence argued the accused posed no flight risk and suggested cooperation between Cypriot and Bulgarian authorities could ensure his return. However, the prosecution countered that the accused posed a flight risk due to residing outside the SBA jurisdiction. Court dates remain as scheduled, with a plea hearing set for September 22 and trial scheduled for November 30 if the father pleads not guilty.
