University of Cyprus Library Opens Access to Rare Books and Historical Documents for Researchers
The University of Cyprus Library has announced the opening of its special collections, granting researchers access to rare books and historical documents of significant historical, scientific, and bibliographic value. The collections feature incunabula, rare early printed books, and 19th-century editions, showcasing the evolution of printing, bookbinding, and publishing. A notable component is the Georgios and Markisia Laganas Library, currently being catalogued and gradually integrated into the Library’s electronic catalogue.
Access to these rare materials is available only in the Library’s reading room from Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 14:00, with specialised equipment ensuring safe handling and protection. The Library is also digitising selected materials and making them accessible via the digital platform LEKYTHOS, which hosts over 23,500 records and around 180,000 digital items in fields such as archaeology, architecture, history, and literature.
Researchers interested in studying the special collections must arrange appointments in advance by contacting the Library’s collections officer or staff via email or telephone.
