Recent challenges have affected existing park-and-ride options, particularly due to a shortage of bus drivers. The service connecting GSP Stadium to central Nicosia, known as the “Pame Express,” was nearly discontinued because of this shortage. Authorities have noted the scarcity of bus drivers in Cyprus, describing them as "like an endangered species," with retirements outpacing new hires.
Efforts to address the driver shortage include discussions about recruiting drivers from abroad, although legal and language requirements pose obstacles. Currently, bus drivers must have a working knowledge of Greek and obtain a Cyprus category D license, which can be a lengthy and demanding process. The Transport Ministry continues to explore solutions to sustain and improve public transport services on the island.
