Monk Arrested for Attempted Murder at Paphos Monastery Injuring Two
A 51-year-old monk was arrested on Friday after attacking two people at a monastery in the Paphos district. The incident occurred when a delegation of priests visited the monastery and advised the monk to hand over his cell keys and leave. In response, the monk allegedly stabbed a 53-year-old man in the throat and injured a 27-year-old man’s hand with a sharp object.
The 53-year-old victim was hospitalized at Paphos general hospital, where his wounds were treated and stitched. The younger priest was treated for his hand injury in casualty and was subsequently discharged. Police continue their investigation into the motives behind the violent attack.
