Cyprus launches €31 million reform to modernise Social Welfare Services
Cyprus is implementing a €31 million comprehensive reform to modernise its Social Welfare Services, improving social protection systems across the country. The reform aims to enhance service quality, speed, and coordination, with a strong focus on child protection and support for vulnerable groups.
The initiative, supported by the EU-funded Thalia 2021-2027 Cohesion Policy Programme, will restructure operations, update tools, and establish multidisciplinary teams to manage complex social cases more effectively. It also introduces the Neighbourhood Social Worker programme to bring services closer to communities and ensure early intervention.
Additional efforts include a new national child protection strategy, escort and mentor services for vulnerable children, and digital upgrades to the welfare system. The reform seeks to create a modern, efficient, and people-centred social protection network to address Cyprus’ increasing and complex social needs.
