Limassol launches €9.2 million water supply network upgrade to serve 40,000 residents
The Limassol District Local Government Organisation (EOA Limassol) has commenced a €9.2 million project to replace 100 kilometres of ageing water supply pipes in the city center. Co-financed by the European Union under the THALIA 2021-2027 Programme, the initiative aims to modernise the water infrastructure, reduce failures and water losses, and improve service reliability for about 40,000 residents across approximately 2.6 square kilometres.
The project, which began with a ceremony on August 6, 2026, includes installing new pipes using modern materials, excavation, and restoring affected roads and pavements. It covers key areas from Enaerios to the seafront avenue, encompassing around 220 roads. EOA Limassol expects that once complete, the initiative will also lower maintenance costs and boost water quality.
This upgrade forms part of a broader infrastructure plan that includes installing 80,000 smart water meters and constructing four new reservoirs worth a combined €3.8 million. The contract with An. Christou Properties & Constructions Limited was signed in June 2026, and construction is projected to take 24 months.
