Cyprus-born pianist Mark Albert Staikovici wins Bronze at Vienna International Piano Competition 2026

Mark Albert Staikovici, a 13-year-old pianist born in Cyprus, has won the Bronze Award at the 3rd Vienna International Piano Competition 2026. The competition, held at the historic Ehrbar Saal as part of Vienna’s Summer Festival, attracted over 220 applicants from 50 countries, with only 72 selected to compete. Staikovici advanced to the second live round, impressing judges with technically demanding performances.

Staikovici began piano lessons at age nine under teacher Zbyněk Maruška and has since garnered numerous awards, including first place at the Cyprus Avant-Garde Young Pianists Competition and prizes across Europe. Alongside piano, he is active in tennis and competitive chess, demonstrating strong discipline and focus.

Reflecting on his experience, Staikovici described his time in Vienna as unforgettable and motivating. His teacher praised his musical sensitivity, discipline, and growth, considering this achievement a significant milestone in a promising career.
