Encouraging public interest in shares of Cyprus' proposed new cooperative bank amid summer holidays

Public interest in acquiring shares in Cyprus' proposed new cooperative bank has been encouraging despite the August holiday period, according to Panicos Hambas, president of the Pancyprian Cooperative Holding and Cooperative Promotion Company. The public share offer started on July 22, 2026, with 42 million shares available for online purchase through Athlos Capital, each priced at €1 with a minimum subscription of 100 shares.

Hambas noted that discussions with companies interested in investing are ongoing and the share offer remains open until November 17, 2026. If the required capital is not raised by then, the offer may be extended by eight months, pending an updated prospectus approved by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission.

The creation of the new cooperative bank is seen as a rare opportunity for Cyprus, being established under the supervision of the European Central Bank. Regional meetings are being held across Cyprus to assist prospective investors with the online application process, ensuring public support and broad participation in the initiative.
