Cypriots spend almost an hour each day commuting to and from work or school, with private cars remaining the most popular mode of transport, according to data from international platform Numbeo. The average one-way commute is about 25 minutes, totaling nearly 50 minutes of travel time daily for workers and students.
Private vehicles account for 67% of all journeys, while only 5% use buses. Walking represents nearly 20% of trips, cycling 3%, and motorbikes less than 1%. Car commuters typically spend 23 minutes per journey covering an average distance of 16 kilometers. In contrast, public transport users experience longer commutes, with bus rides averaging 50 minutes—including 13 minutes waiting, 34 minutes traveling, and four minutes walking to or from stops.
The survey also highlighted the environmental impact of commuting, estimating that each passenger's travel contributes approximately 1,060kg of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
