University of Cyprus adds 890 temporary parking spaces to ease campus congestion
The University of Cyprus is creating three temporary parking areas on its campus, adding a total of 890 spaces to address long-standing parking issues. The new parking sites are located between the Library and Senate building, between Teaching Space 2 and the Sports Centre, and east of the Sports Centre near sports facilities. The third site is newly adapted for parking and was previously unavailable to students.
The €250,000 project involves laying compacted gravel and installing drainage to improve surface conditions, reducing mud, dust, and uneven ground. Two of the parking areas are expected to be ready by the start of the academic year, with the third completed by late September. These temporary spaces are planned to be available for at least two years, with future campus development expected to repurpose the sites.
Additionally, the university is moving forward with plans for 110 permanent parking spaces, with a tender set for September. Existing parking areas with 140 spaces will also be reinforced, covered, and equipped with solar panels to improve facilities.
