Fifth suspect arrested in Cyprus terrorism case linked to Hamas network
Cyprus police have arrested a fifth suspect in a terrorism case linked to a Hamas network, the individual being a 32-year-old Palestinian man living in Limassol. This development had not been previously disclosed. The suspect allegedly arranged for another suspect’s transfer to Turkey and reportedly made the trip himself.
The case came to light in May when two Palestinians were arrested for preparing terrorist attacks in Cyprus, with explosives and hazardous materials found at their properties. Subsequent arrests included a Palestinian with Cypriot citizenship and a man arrested in Indonesia, alleged to be the network mastermind. All five suspects face charges including terrorism, conspiracy to murder, and money laundering.
Authorities are set to bring all five suspects before the Larnaca Permanent Criminal Court on Thursday for a new referral hearing. This will merge three separate cases into one indictment to streamline the legal process. A related suspect arrested in Crete is also believed to be linked to the network preparing attacks on Greek soil.
