India and Cyprus to develop structured roadmap for startup and research cooperation
Indian High Commissioner Manish Manish emphasized the need for a structured roadmap to enhance cooperation between India and Cyprus in startups, research, and technology. Speaking to KPMG Cyprus and Plug and Play Cyprus, he highlighted the opportunity to turn growing bilateral interest into measurable partnerships. India’s large startup ecosystem can complement Cyprus’s strategic position within the European Union, offering access to regulatory frameworks, financial services, and international collaboration.
Key areas for collaboration include institutional partnerships, startup acceleration programs, and joint research in fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, climate technology, and digital innovation. Manish also proposed a Cyprus-GIFT City dual-hub strategy to connect Indian innovation with European markets through Cyprus, building on recent agreements signed between Indian and Cypriot financial exchanges.
Following the upgrade of bilateral ties to a strategic partnership during President Nikos Christodoulides’s visit to India, both countries have signed memoranda supporting innovation, technology, higher education, and research cooperation. Manish called for creating long-term mechanisms involving founders, researchers, investors, corporations, and governments, to turn bilateral interest into effective and sustainable innovation diplomacy.
