Cyprus launches public consultation on national diving tourism strategy to boost sector development
The Deputy Ministry of Tourism in Cyprus has initiated a public consultation on the National Strategy for the Development of Diving Tourism, inviting feedback from stakeholders and the public until September 15, 2026. The consultation focuses on a comprehensive strategy and implementation plan designed to enhance the island’s diving tourism sector, which currently includes 86 registered dive centres and 69 identified dive sites.
The study, prepared by the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute, highlights opportunities for growth in diving tourism, emphasizing sustainable development, infrastructure improvements, and legislative updates. Recommendations include installing safety features at dive sites, introducing a national licensing system for dive centres and instructors, and promoting environmental awareness among divers.
The strategy also calls for increased promotion through branding, enhanced online resources, partnerships with industry stakeholders, and the development of combined tourism packages. These efforts aim to position Cyprus as a leading diving destination internationally while supporting local businesses and extending tourism beyond the summer season.
