Neapolis University Paphos to lead major EU-funded research project on gender equality in innovation
Neapolis University Paphos has secured Horizon Europe funding to lead a three-year international research project called GENDRIVE, which aims to enhance research quality by integrating gender equality into institutional reforms. The project involves collaboration with University College London, the University of Barcelona, and Greece’s KMOP, focusing on staff exchanges, training, and mentoring to promote gender equality in research careers.
The GENDRIVE project is part of the Horizon Europe WIDERA programme and was selected from nearly 2,000 proposals, reflecting Neapolis University's recognized research and academic excellence. Cyprus is eligible to coordinate such projects despite modest domestic research investment, which stands at 0.65% of GDP, below the EU average.
The initiative addresses Cyprus' gender imbalance in senior research roles, where women, despite representing 66% of doctoral graduates, hold only 14% of top research positions. By strengthening international networks and research management, GENDRIVE seeks to make gender equality a driver of research excellence and career advancement in innovation institutions.
