Cyprus labour ministry subsidies support 9,500 low-income pensioners and workers for summer holidays
The Cyprus labour ministry’s subsidy programmes are set to enable approximately 9,500 low-income pensioners and workers to enjoy summer holidays this year. Over 7,500 applications from pensioners seeking subsidies have already been received, surpassing the government’s allocated budget of €1.165 million. As a result, around 6,400 pensioners will receive support, with the subsidy covering up to €57.50 per person per night for accommodation and full board at 18 participating hotels primarily located in the Troodos mountains and the Tillyria region.
Meanwhile, the subsidy programme for workers has seen its budget increase slightly to €936,000, with 2,111 applications filed so far. Last year, 1,126 applications were approved, allowing 3,092 workers to partake in subsidised holidays. The worker subsidy covers €55 per person per night for stays up to five nights, with any excess costs borne by beneficiaries. Both programmes help support local hotels in mountain and northwest Cyprus regions, areas facing sustainability challenges, while providing beneficiaries with affordable holiday opportunities.
