Cyprus advances electronic platform to enhance response to violence cases
Cyprus is progressing with the development of an electronic platform designed to help authorities prevent and respond more quickly to incidents of violence. The initiative aims to improve coordination among services handling violence cases by enabling the secure exchange of information through clear procedures that protect victims and those at risk.
During a meeting chaired by Justice Minister Costas Fitiris, officials including the data protection commissioner, the commissioner for gender equality, and representatives from education, social welfare, and the police reviewed a preliminary proposal outlining the platform's structure and operation. Key discussion points involved technical and legal considerations such as data protection, security measures, and compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation.
This new system is distinct from the current project collecting statistics on violence against women and domestic violence to fulfill Cyprus’ European obligations. The platform aims to identify early warning signs, prevent escalation, and enable faster intervention by relevant authorities.
