Cyprus Unveils Comprehensive Plan to Boost Employment and Education for People with Disabilities
President Nikos Christodoulides announced new government policies aimed at increasing labour market participation and educational opportunities for people with disabilities in Cyprus. A key feature is the creation of personalised plans for graduates of special education before they turn 22. Two new employment programmes will be launched by the end of the year, alongside increased subsidies for social enterprises hiring people with disabilities, raising support from €10,000 to €25,000 until 2030.
Additional initiatives include post-secondary education programmes for individuals over 22, vocational training, and personal professional helpers. The government will also open new day centres funded with €4 million, offering 30 education programmes plus transport grants. Three new autism centres are planned in Nicosia and Ayia Napa.
Christodoulides highlighted the government's coordinated approach involving five ministries and emphasised the importance of social inclusion and empowerment for young people with disabilities. He expressed confidence that these measures will enable them to actively participate in economic, educational, and social life, ensuring no one is left behind.
