24-year-old Syrian e-scooter rider dies after collision in Limassol
Ibrahim Al Aawad, a 24-year-old Syrian man, died on August 4 from injuries sustained in a road collision in Limassol on July 26. The accident occurred at the junction of Solonos and Sapphous streets when his electric scooter collided with a car. Al Aawad was seriously injured and later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
Limassol Traffic Police revealed that the e-scooter rider was not wearing a helmet or reflective clothing as required by law and that personal mobility devices were prohibited at the location. Preliminary investigations suggest Al Aawad did not stop at a stop sign before the collision.
The 20-year-old car driver, who left the scene, was later arrested and charged. He admitted to leaving because he was driving without a license and insurance. Police have seized the vehicle for examination, and the driver is due to appear before Limassol District Court on multiple charges.
