Christos Angelides has rejected the offer to serve as deputy tourism minister in President Nikos Christodoulides’ planned cabinet reshuffle. Angelides, who is the director general of the Hotelier’s Association (Pasyxe), declined to replace Costas Koumis, according to reports on Tuesday. The reshuffle has faced strong condemnation within DISY, the main opposition party, due to concerns over the inclusion of party members in the government despite their decision to remain outside the ruling coalition.
DISY’s vice president, Yiannis Karousos, warned President Christodoulides against appointing party figures to ministerial positions, emphasizing respect for the party’s voter base and their stance against joining the cabinet. DISY president Annita Demetriou also criticized the reshuffle efforts, highlighting the need for effective governance rather than mere personnel changes. Meanwhile, talks continue behind the scenes as unresolved disagreements linger over the allocation of ministries, with some ministers expected to step down in the coming weeks.
