The Federation of Cypriot Organisations of America has donated approximately €30,000 to purchase protective gear for volunteer firefighters in the Limassol mountains, assisting communities still recovering from the devastating 2025 wildfires. The donation aims to support the volunteer firefighter scheme recently approved by the cabinet, enhancing safety measures for those on the front lines.
Officials, including Commissioner Charalambos Christofinas and chief fire officer Nikos Longinos, welcomed the contribution during a delegation visit to Pachna. Progress has been made in rebuilding efforts, with almost all damage compensation claims resolved for the nearly 980 affected homes. Authorities remain committed to full recovery and improving wildfire prevention and response.
Longinos emphasized the crucial role volunteers play during the first minutes of fire outbreaks, highlighting ongoing training and insurance coverage improvements. Federation President Kyriakos Papastylianou expressed diaspora solidarity, hoping the new gear will remain unused but prepared for future emergencies as part of broader efforts to protect Cyprus.
