Redevelopment of Larnaca’s Agios Ioannis Neighbourhood Begins After More Than a Decade
Work on the long-awaited redevelopment of Agios Ioannis, one of Larnaca’s most traditional neighbourhoods, has officially started after delays exceeding ten years. The project, estimated to cost €6.27 million plus VAT and co-funded by the Republic of Cyprus and Larnaca Municipality, aims to transform the area within two years, provided there are no further interruptions related to archaeological finds.
The redevelopment covers about 23,000 square metres and includes improvements to the road network, widened pavements, expanded green spaces, and new lighting and street furniture. Key historical sites such as the Church of Agios Ioannis, the traditional bathhouse, and the Tuzla Mosque are integral to the plans, which also prioritize sustainable urban mobility by focusing on pedestrians, cyclists, and accessibility.
Miltiades Neophytou Civil Engineering Contractors & Developers Limited, responsible for several projects in Larnaca, is executing the works. Residents have been informed about upcoming road closures and traffic arrangements, with a municipal meeting scheduled to provide updates on construction phases and support facilities during the redevelopment.
