Cyprus Federation Urges Hunter Caution Ahead of Summer Season Amid Wildfire Risks
The Cyprus Hunting and Wildlife Conservation Federation has called on hunters to prioritize safety and strictly follow regulations as the summer hunting season opens this Sunday. With high temperatures and increased wildfire risks across the island, hunters are urged to ensure clear identification of targets and respect safe distances, other hunters, landowners, and property users.
The federation reminded hunters that hunting turtle doves and quail is prohibited during the season’s first two outings on Sunday and August 30, with hunting of these species commencing on September 2. Wood pigeon hunting will be allowed from this Sunday, with mandatory recording of all game catches via the Artemis Cy mobile application to support sustainable wildlife management.
Additional advice included carrying sufficient water, avoiding heat exposure, and safeguarding hunting dogs from the heat. The federation warned of heightened wildfire dangers and strictly forbids lighting fires outside designated areas. Hunters renewing licences were encouraged to join local hunting associations to support wildlife and countryside conservation efforts.
